ORLANDO, Fla. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's tennis team headed to Orlando, Fla. for spring break. The Cougars opened competition against St. John University. They battled hard but fell to the Cardinals, 6-1.
Doubles
- Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) and Amirah Shakir (Dekalb, Ill.) defeated their opponents at No. 1 doubles, 6-4.
- At. No. 2 doubles, Hannah Upole (Hinkley, Ohio) and Kathleen Castillo (Elmwood Park, Ill.) battled hard but fell 6-3.
- Showing grit, Courtneye Schneider (Plainfield, Ill.) and Aura Cortez-Cali (Berwyn, Ill.) didn't make it easy on their opponents. However, they lost the match, 6-4.
Singles
- Engelman secured the Cougars' lone point of the match, securing victory at No. 1 singles with set scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
- However, St. John Fisher continued showcasing its strength in single plays, sweeping the other five matches in straight sets.
- Shakir was hoping to create a struggle for the opponent but came up just short, 7-6, 7-5.
- At. No. 6 singles, Cortez-Cali put up a fight, falling 6-3, 7-5.
