Ron Katarzynski hired as new men's volleyball coach

Ron Katarzynski will step in as the new head men's volleyball coach.

River Forest, Ill. – Concordia University Chicago is ecstatic to bring on Ron Katarzynski as the new head men's volleyball coach, director of athletics Pete Gnan announced today.,
 
"I am very excited to add Ron to our coaching staff here at CUC," Gnan said. "He has very good experience and has a reputation of building a great culture for his teams. We look forward to Ron stepping into this role and helping us build off the success for our men's volleyball program."
 
Katarzynski brings over 30 years of coaching experience at various levels to this role as head coach.
 
He comes to Concordia Chicago from Aurora University, where he served as the assistant coach for the men's volleyball program for three seasons. During his time with the Spartans, he helped the team to an overall record of 37-24, with the team improving their record each year since he joined the staff. This past season, he coached an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region player as well as four All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference honorees.
 
Before coaching at Aurora, Katarzynski was a head coach at Sports Performance Volleyball Club. Over his six years with the organization, he coached his team to an Elite Eight finish at AAU Nationals. He also coached the No. 1 team in the country in 2014 and the No. 25 team in the country in 2013.
 
He also made stops at other volleyball clubs and high schools throughout the area over his 30 years of coaching, including St Pius, St John's, Side Out VBC, Avalanche VBC, West Chicago High School.
 
"I'd like to thank Pete Gnan and the athletics department for the opportunity to be the next CUC men's volleyball coach," Katarzynski said. "I am blessed to have the opportunity to build on the foundation that Coach Rhyen Staley has built. I am looking forward to meeting the team and getting started in this role on this beautiful campus."
 
Katarzynski is a graduate of Lewis University and the Chicago Cooking and Hospitality Institute. He will start this role as the second head coach in program history on Monday, August 16.
