Medina earns CoSIDA Academic All-American

Gerardo Medina was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

River Forest, Ill. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the recipients of its annual CoSIDA Academic All-American award for men's soccer teams throughout the country. Concordia University Chicago had one member of its team earn this honor in senior Gerardo Medina (Cicero, Ill.), who received third team honors. This is the third CoSIDA Academic All-American honor in this team's history, and the first under Head Coach Michael Arango

In order to receive this award, all student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior and have above a 3.3 GPA. They also must show athletic success in the field of competition. Due to COVID-19, the statistics were based on their whole career and not just this season.

During his time as a Cougar, Medina played in 56 games and was consistently a starter. He accumulated 10 goals over that time, five of which came in his junior year. He also assisted on eight goals, which helped him finish his time at Concordia Chicago with 28 points.

Along with his achievements on the field, he achieved great success in the classroom as well. He earned a 4.0 GPA as a criminal justice and political science major. Because of his academic accolades, he earned a full ride to attend the University of Illinois-Champaign's law school.
