RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's soccer team welcomed the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College to Concordia Stadium this afternoon. The Cougars held their own for 27 minutes, but once the Dutchmen scored, it was hard to hold them back, and CUC fell 9-0.
Inside the Box:
First Half
- The Cougars played strong defense, led by Andre Wangandu (Lansing, Mich.) and Daniel Gutierrez (Chicago, Ill.), limiting the Dutchmen's advancement forward.
- CUC made their way up the field and found Barragan Jr. some space for a shot, but it unfortunately went over the crossbar.
- The Dutchmen countered back down to the Cougars' defensive end. After multiple corner kicks and shots, Hope was able to take the lead in the 28th minute. Three minutes later, the Dutchmen doubled their lead.
- Gudiel kept busy in net, making multiple outstretched saves to limit the damage and keep the game 2-0 heading into halftime.
Second Half
- Hope picked up right where they left off, scoring three goals in the first six minutes of the second half.
- The Cougars found their footing again and limited the Dutchmen's attacks. CUC found a way back forward and Flores took a shot from the top of the box, forcing a save from Hope's goalkeeper in the 60th minute. Three minutes later, Zizak stopped a shot from the Dutchmen.
- In the final 20 minutes, the Dutchmen recorded three more goals and took the game 9-0.
