Box Score Neither 90 nor 110 minutes were enough to separate the Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (0-2-1) and the Rockford University Regents (0-2-1) on Wednesday night at Wegbury Stadium. The game finished in a 0-0 tie in Loves Park, Ill. after the two teams could not find a winner in overtime. It's the third time the two have drawn, and the second neither scored against one another in their history.
Both teams' defenses and goalkeepers can certainly be proud of earning a shutout. Cougar sophomore
Joseph Perez (Crystal Lake, Ill.) made the first start of his college career, playing the full match and making seven saves.
His defense held firm in front of him, with
Austin Montejano (Zion, Ill.),
Fabian Aranda (Warrenville, Ill.),
Bryce Bilodeau (Dallas, Texas) and
Alberto Arellano (Chicago, Ill.) starting as the Cougars' back four to keep Rockford's attack at bay as they have yet to score a goal this season.
The lack of goals for the Cougars was not for lack of effort. Arellano was one of only two players to register multiple shots on goal in the match, with
Ryan Kuhlman (Darien, Ill.) and
Oscar Montejano (Zion, Ill.) also hitting the target for CUC. The Cougars also earned eight corner kicks compared to just two for the Regents.
Next up, the Cougars finally return to Concordia Stadium to take on Dominican University this Sunday, March 28. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
