River Forest, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago men's volleyball team (1-2) hit the road Thursday evening as they took on Rockford University (0-4) in a NACC contest. After three sets, the Cougars grabbed their first win of the season as they defeated the Regents.
The first set was a hard-fought battle between the two teams. The Cougars and the Regents exchanged points, but at the end, Concordia made the final push to secure the set without going to extra points with a score of 25-23. From there, CUC kept control of the final two sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-13 as the Cougars swept Rockford for their first win of the season.
As the story has been throughout the first two games, the Cougars were led by sophomore
Luke Vozenilek (Westmont, Ill.). The outside hitter recorded a season-high 15 kills to secure the win for Concordia. He also contributed two blocks, six digs and an ace.
In the backrow, outside hitter
Clayton Nix (Lindenhurst, Ill.) made the biggest impact for CUC. He tallied a team-high 11 digs, which is also a career-high for the freshman. From the service line, junior
Virgilio Rodriguez (Cicero, Ill.) had the greatest success for the Cougars with four aces. He also led grabbed 24 assists as the team's sole setter.
Concordia Chicago will be back in action again on Tuesday, March 2, as they travel to the Illinois Institute of Technology. The match will take place in Chicago at 7 p.m.
