River Forest, Ill. -- The Concordia University Chicago men's volleyball team (0 – 2) returns to action on Thursday night in a Northern Athletic Central Conference matchup on the road at Rockford University (0 -3).
The Cougars will go for their first win of the season, after winning their first-ever match against the Regents last February by three sets to one. That contest featured then-freshman outside hitter
Luke Vozenilek (Westmont, Ill.) with 21 kills for a 37.8 hitting percentage in the four-set win. Current Cougars junior
Virgilio Rodriguez (Cicero, Ill.), sophomore
Christopher Livesay (Medinah, Ill.) and senior
Ryan Felbinger (Cicero, Ill.) also contributed to the win.
Through two matches this season, Vozenilek leads the NACC in kills per set with 3.67 and points per set with 4.42. He is well-supported by Felbinger, who is second in the NACC in hitting percentage at .417. Early in the 2021 schedule, the two lead the team with 22 and 12 kills respectively.
Both the Cougars and Regents have faced Aurora University early in this season, each losing in three sets. However, while the Cougars kept things close and scored just under 20 points per set, the Regents only managed 27 total points across the three sets.
The match at the Seaver Center presents an excellent opportunity for the Cougars to rebound and get into the win column, with plenty of matches remaining to improve on their strong 2020 results.
