River Forest, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago track and field teams were back in competition after about a month off from meets. They traveled to the University of Indianapolis for the UIndy Classic. No team scores were kept, but there were plenty of individual performances worth highlighting from the event.

On the track, senior
Simone Wilson (Minneapolis, Minn.) shined for the Cougars. The sprinter ran the 400-meter dash, earning gold in the event with a time of 1:00.27. She also grabbed silver in the 200-meter with a time of 27.85, which was two seconds shy of the first-place runner.

For the men on the track, freshman
Malik Spencer (Flint, Mich.) had one of the best performances of the day. He finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.09, which was good enough to finish with bronze. He also ran a 7.48-second 60-meter dash to earn fourth in that event. For the longer distances, sophomore
Ernest Bogart (Pflugerville, Texas) had the best race of the day for the Cougars as he grabbed the sixth-place spot in the 800-meter with a time of 2:06.00.

In the field events, junior
Gustavo Alvarez (Chicago, Ill.) continued with his record-breaking performances in the pole vault. He shattered his own school record with a height of 4.59 meters, which was good enough to finish in second for the meet. Sophomore
Jaylen Glass (Merrillville, Ind.) also had a great showing in the pole vault, jumping 3.69 meters.

For the women, senior
Cassandra Garza (Grafton, Wis.) broke a record of her own. She threw a distance of 12.52 meters in the shot put, which set a new CUC record. This was also good enough for her to finish fifth in the event. She also secured a fifth-place standing after the weight throw, where she threw 13.75 meters.

The Cougars plan to compete in one more indoor meet this season before the outdoor season begins. They will be at the Gately Indoor Track and Field Facility in Chicago, competing in an event hosted by Aurora University. The meet is scheduled for Feb. 27.
