Women's tennis grabs 6-3 win over Muskies

The Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team won 6-3 against Lakeland University.

Box Score River Forest, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago women's tennis team was back in action today, Oct. 3, as they hosted the Lakeland University Muskies in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference competition.
 
The match, which was supposed to be played on campus at 12:30 p.m. today, moved to 9 a.m. at the Tennis and Fitness Center in River Forest in preparation for incoming thunderstorms. After making the move to indoor courts, the Cougars were able to capitalize on the day as they secured their second win of the season with a 6-3 performance.
 
Doubles Action
  • The No. 1 team for the Cougars in Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.) and Kamilia Giza (River Grove, Ill.) came out on top as they won their game 8 sets to 2.
  • In the No. 2 game, Mackenzize Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) and Emily Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) had a closer game, but they still pulled out an 8-6 win over their competition.
  • The final doubles game of the match had Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and Jacquelyn Rocha (Waukegan, Ill.) competing. Although they fought against the Muskies, they were unable to grab a win as they finished their game with an 8-4 loss.
 
Singles Competition
  • No. 1 Wingood played against the best player for the Muskies. She was able to secure the win in this match as she had set scores of 4-6, 6-4 and 10-7.
  • Giza played in the No. 2 spot as she won both of her games 6-2 against her opponent.
  • Natalie Jensen (North Riverside, Ill.) came in for the No. 3 spot for CUC as she finished her game with a win. Her sets resulted in 6-1 and 6-2 wins.
  • Parker put up a fight in her game against the No. 4 opponent for Lakeland. She was able to grab one set with scores of 6-2, 2-6 and 7-10.
  • Danzcel Gerona (Bartlett, Ill.) ended her game with a win against the Muskies' No. 5 player with set scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
  • Madison Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the competition for the day for CUC as she faced Lakeland's No. 6 player. She lost her game with set scores of 0-6 and 3-6.
 
The Cougars will have the week off before they host a double header next weekend. They will welcome Concordia University Wisconsin and Wisconsin Lutheran College at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
