Thomas McNamara capped his final season of indoor track & field this afternoon. Fittingly, it was with a record-setting performance at the NCAA III Final Qualifier at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
McNamara ran in the 5,000 meters after winning the conference title in the event last week. Three weeks ago, McNamara set a new school record by a 20-second margin, running a 15:04.73 at Grand Valley State University. That time was run on a 3,000-meter track, and the time was converted to 15:14.41 for the (standard) 2,000-meter track. This afternoon, on the Wartburg track, McNamara bettered that time by four seconds, recording a 15:10.48.
"Overall, this was a good day," said CUC head coach
Steve Belanger. "Thomas has excelled through this entire season. It's appropriate that he finished the indoor portion with another top performance today, and we still have his outdoor season to see what he does there."
