Feb. 8, 2020 - The Concordia-Chicago track & field teams made a return trip to the Henry Crown Field House at the University of Chicago today to compete in the Windy City Rumble.The men finished in sixth place out of eight teams, despite only taking part in day two of the two-day meet. Â Â
Senior
Thomas McNamara broke the school's indoor record in the 3,000 meters for the second time this season. His 9:02.46 surpassed Ethan McBee's previous standard by 16 seconds in the Dec. 6 meet at Olivet Nazarene, but he bettered his own mark by another 14 seconds today, turning in an 8:48.30. McNamara's new time also widened the gap between him and the rest of the field behind him in the conference rankings.
The distance medley relay team of
Ernest Bogart, Adam Gray, McNamara and
Drake Dowdy ran their event for the first time this season. Not only did they finish in first place, beating out the team from Division I Chicago State University, but their collective time of 11:10.50 also moved them into third place in the conference ranking (pending other results by NACC teams this weekend).
Individually, Bogart and Dowdy also ran in the 600 meters. Bogart placed third with a first-time effort of 1:31.44, followed by Dowdy in fourth with a 1:36.06.
In one of the larger fields of the meet,
Brandon Ellis and
Max Woywod were CUC's top two finishers in the 200-meter dash, both just a fraction of a second short of personal-best times. Ellis finished 13th with 23.93 seconds while Woywod was 15th in 24.12.
Shane Allen recorded a season-best throw in the shot put by over two feet. He finished in fifth place with a 43' 6" and moved up three places to sixth in the conference rankings. In the weight throw,
Jacob Mills scored with an eighth-place throw of 41' 1" while Allen placed 11th with a 36' 8".Â
The Cougars will split up next weekend, with part of the team competing in the "Big Meet Friday" at Grand Valley State University in Michigan on Feb. 14, and others competing in the Dick Hendricks Invitational at Ripon College in Wisconsin on Feb. 15.
