Feb. 22, 2020 - In their final competition before the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference indoor championships, the Concordia-Chicago men's track & field team traveled to the University of Chicago for the Margaret Bradley Invitational.

A senior and a freshman would lead the CUC men today. Senior Tyrique Thomas began the day by qualifying for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, matching his indoor best time of 8.61 seconds - incredibly, the third time this season Thomas has recorded that exact time.  When the finals of the event came a few hours later, Thomas would finally get past that hurdle and record an 8.44. This new time would not only mark his personal best but also a new school record, beating the old mark of 8.47 by Phillip Thomas (no relation) from 2008. The 8.44 would also allow Thomas to regain sole possession of the top mark for the event in the NACC rankings.

Freshman Shane Allen set his personal best marks in both the shot put and the weight throw. His shot put was measured at 44' 2 1/2" and bettered his mark from two weeks ago, also at Chicago. Allen's weight throw was 44' 1 1/4", an improvement of over 15 inches from his season-opening effort at Olivet Nazarene. With his efforts today, Allen moved into sixth place in conference for the shot put and seventh place for the weight throw.

Thomas McNamara rested from the 3,000 and 5,000-meter races today but participated in the mile run. He finished third out of 27 runners with a time of 4:29,62, a half-second off his season-best time. McNamara will keep his third-place position in the NACC rankings for the mile; he is presently second in the 5,000 and the conference leader in the 3,000.

Ernest Bogart made his season debut in the indoor 3,000. He ran a 9:23.02 and moved into ninth place in the conference
rankings.

The Cougars will compete in the NACC Indoor Championships next Saturday. Feb. 29. The meet will be held at Carthage College's Tarble Athletics and Recreation Center in Kenosha, WI.
