Cougars Lose in First Road Trip

Naperville, Ill.- Concordia University Chicago (2-1) took the road for their first away match of the season to take on North Central College (0-1).  CUC would be coming off of a 3-1 win against Trine University and looking to build on their winning record. Unfortunately, the Cougars would fall in three straight sets (23-25, 14-25, 22-25) and fall to an even record.

Inside the Box Score:
  • Luke Vozenilek (14 kills) led the way for the CUC offense and was the main focal point.
  • Trent Weber ended the match with the team lead in assists (24).
  • Errors hurt the Cougars in set two, where they recorded eight.
  • In set two, NCC held the much higher hitting percentage (.458-.000).
  • NCC also dominated with 12 aces in the match opposed to the Cougars only recording two.
Quick Recap:
  • A tight knit beginning to the first set would end the same way. No team got outside of a five point lead, but NCC led most of the way (23-25).
  • Set two was a different story, and NCC came out to a 4-0 lead.
  • CUC would cut the deficit at times, but the lead would slowly grow with errors.
  • After two Cardinals' kills and a CUC service error the Cougars would drop set two 25-14.
  • Set three was close until the end much like set one. Virgilio Rodriguez came through with a kill to tie it up at 18-18.
  • Rodriguez would record another kill to make it 20-20, but that is as close as Concordia-Chicago would get.
  • Final score of set three would be 25-22.
