Cougars Dominate, Sweep Competition

River Forest, Ill- Concordia University Chicago (4-2) took on Fontbonne University (0-9) and Greenville University (0-5). Concordia-Chicago would sail through both matches with very dominate play and sweeping both teams. 
 
(Game 1: Fontbonne)
Turning Point: After the first game went to extra points, CUC finally gained separation after four straight kills by Luke Vozenilek. These points would start a run for the Cougars and ultimately lead to their 25-13 set two win. 
 
Inside the Box Score:  
Quick Recap:
  • Set one was back and forth until the very end. Concordia-Chicago had the first chance to end it with the lead at 24-23. 
  • Finally, two Vozenilek kills would seal the deal at 28-26.
  • Vozenilek would score the opening point of set two, and spring-load a big run that would help CUC gain traction.
  • Perez would send in another kill to push the lead to 20-13 and force a Fontbonne timeout late. 
  • From there, the Cougars would close out set two by a score of 25-13.
  • CUC jumped out of the gates hot in set three to a 3-0 lead.
  • The score would be brought back to a tie, but two attack errors would help the Cougars go on a 6-1 run and take a 14-9 lead.
  • Nate Paasch and Braden Woolsey sprinkled in some kills and then Vozenilek once again finished out the set with three straight kills. 
 
(Game 2: Greenville)
Turning Point:
  • From the jump Concordia-Chicago put the pressure on Greenville. They would start with a 6-0 run to begin set one and never look back. 
 
Inside the Box Score:
  • Perez led the way with 11 kills.
  • Trent Weber assisted on 23 kills in the second match.
  • Geiser took his turn as the leader in digs against Greenville.
  • 6 blocks helped the CUC defense keep control.
  • For the second straight match, the Cougars held a team to a negative hitting percentage in a set (set 1, and 3).
  • In set two, CUC hit .433%.
 
Quick Recap:
  • Set one was all Cougars from the get-go. After a 6-0 start they would push the lead out to scores of 15-6 and 18-10.
  • Greenville would make a little run to cut it to 18-14, but Vozenilek would shut it down with a big-time kill.
  • Perez would get the Cougars to 24 with a score set up by Trent Weber, and soon help CUC close out set one 25-17. 
  • Two straight kills by Perez led to a 3-0 lead in set two. 
  • With the score 18-12, GU made another run to make it 19-16.
  • They would not have enough firepower and Perez would finish the set how he started it, with two kills.
  • CUC took set two 25-21.
  • Greenville took their turn starting with the lead at 1-0 but that would be the last time they led the whole set. 
  • With the score 8-8, Concordia-Chicago went on a 10-2 run to make it 18-10.
  • Finaly, Weber would get a kill for himself and win it for the Cougars, 25-15.
