RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After going 2-1 over two days to open the 2020 season, the Concordia University Chicago Men's Volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday night against the Cardinals of North Central College. CUC returns to action after a ten day break since their last match.
Series History: This will be the second time that the Cardinals and Cougars have matched up. NCC took the series opener last season by a 3-0 score. NCC recorded nine aces in the contest as the CUC offense was unable to find its rhythm.
About the Cougars: The Concordia Chicago Cougars come into Tuesday night 2-1 on the season. Last time out they split the day, dropping a five set match to NAIA Graceland before rebounding with a four set win over Trine. Through their first three games, CUC ranks second in the NACC in aces per set.
Virgilio Rodriguez led CUC with six aces in the opening weekend. He also led the team with 40 total points. Freshman
Luke Vozenilek impressed in his opening weekend. He recorded a pair of 17 kill matches, while also picking up nine digs.
Brandon Stirn led the team with 23 digs, while
Trent Weber recorded 80 assists.
About the Cardinals: The North Central College Cardinals are 0-1 on the season after dropping a five set match to Aurora on Thursday night at home. The Cardinals went 16-11 last season , falling to #1 Carthage in the MCVL semifinals. Jason Eslinger led the team offensively in the season opener with 22 kills on 44 attempts. Matt Nealon led the team with nine assists. Jared Moser was a threat for NCC as well. He recorded 16 kills, four aces, eight digs and two blocks in the season opener.
Up Next: The Cougars will hit the road again on Friday afternoon for two matches in Greenville, Ill. They will take on Fontbonne University at 1:00pm before taking on the host Greenville at 3:00pm.
