RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Back on Jan. 26, the CUC men's volleyball team wrapped up an exciting 4-0 opening weekend in Angola, IN with a five-set victory over North Park University. Tonight, the Cougars will tangle with the Vikings again a little closer to home as the start to a busy four-match week.
Â
The first time these two sides met, CUC won the first two sets before North Park rallied to take sets three and four. In the deciding fifth set, the Vikings grabbed a 4-1 lead before the Cougars answered with a 13-5 run. North Park attempted a last-ditch rally, but
Ryan Felbinger's kill provided set point as CUC won the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
Nick Capers had 17 kills and a .268 attack while Skyler Versendaal added 16 kills and a .297. Capers continues to lead the Cougars with 109 kills, followed by
Matthew Geiser with 56, Felbinger with 54 and Versendaal with 52.
Â
The Vikings (3-9) have had a fairly balanced attack, led by Arthur Barczak's 96 kills and Angelo Johns' 79; the pair had 14 and 17 kills respectively in the earlier CUC match. Â
Â
Following tonight's match, the Cougars are back on the road Friday against MSOE and then Saturday with a tri-match against St, Xavier and host Trinity Christian. The home opener will be a week from Saturday, March 9 when the Cougars host Concordia Wisconsin.
