RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After a tough road weekend with matches at Concordia Wisconsin and Illinois Tech, the Concordia University Chicago Men's Volleyball team continues their season opening 15 game road stretch tonight. They will take on their second top ten opponent of the season in Benedictine University, the first time the two teams have met.
About the Cougars: The Cougars come into tonight's matchup looking to rebound after two three set losses last weekend to CUW and IIT. CUC held multiple leads in the match against Illinois Tech but were unable to close out the sets late.
Matthew Geiser led the team on Saturday against the Scarlet Hawks. The freshman recorded a team high 15 kills on the day to go along with four aces and seven digs.
Nick Capers leads the Cougars with 104 kills on the season. Geiser leads the team with 205 assists on the season, but he has shared time recently with
Trent Weber who has 98 assists this year. Weber leads the team with 82 digs followed by Geiser with 61 on and
Virgilio Rodriguez with 59.
Ryan Felbinger is the top blocker for CUC, with 13 total blocks on the season.
About the Eagles: The fourth ranked Benedictine University Eagles come in 10-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Their lone loss of the season came against then ranked 11
th Stevenson University in five sets. Benedictine has four top 25 wins this season. Elijah Medlock leads the team with 150 kills and a .254 hitting percentage. He also is tied for the team lead with 13 service aces. Jonathan Velentini leads the team with 87 digs on the year while Joe Lock has recorded 395 of the teams 450 assists. Lock also leads the team with 38 total blocks on the season.
Up Next: The Cougars continue their long road swing next week when they head to North Park University on Wednesday night. They then will head to MSOE on Friday to resume NACC play.
