Cougars Downed By #4 Benedictine

Lisle, Ill, — Playing their second top 10 opponent of the season, the Concordia University Chicago Men's Volleyball team hit the road once again tonight to take on the fourth ranked Benedictine University Eagles. The Cougars held their own in the early sets, but ultimately could not overcome 29 attack errors on the night. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Nick Capers led the team with five kills.
  • Trent Weber had 17 assists.
  • Brian Perez had six digs. 
  • Benedictine out hit CUC -.112 to .159 on the night.
  • Benedictine recorded 14.5 blocks.

In the opening set the two sides battled back and forth early. CUC got their early offense on a Capers kill and a Anthony Galindo, Trent Weber block. CUC grabbed an 8-7 lead on another block, this time coming from Ryan Felbinger. The Cougars were able to build on that lead with two Matthew Geiser aces which extended the lead to 11-9 and forced a Benedictine timeout. Benedictine was able to slowly erase the CUC lead, and completed the comeback to take set one 25-20. 

 
In set two, the Cougars grabbed an early 5-2 lead.A Capers kill and a Geiser, Galindo block helped to propel CUC. The two sides traded points through the middle part of the set. Benedictine was able to use a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead at 16-12. The Eagles then used a 7-4 run to close out set two 25-19.
 
In set three CUC battled early with a kill by Felbinger. The Eagles were able to open up a 6-3 lead early which forced a CUC timeout. The Cougars worked to get back in the set, cutting the deficit to one on a Skylar Versendaal kill. Benedictine then answered with an 11-2 run to open up a big lead which allowed them to take set three 25-14. 
 
The Cougars will continue their 15 match road swing when they head to Chicago to take on North Park next Wednesday night. Opening serve is set for 7:00pm.
