RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Looking to rebounds after a loss to Concordia Wisconsin last night, the Concordia University Chicago Men's Volleyball team traveled to the south side of Chicago to take on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. Despite holding multiple point leads in sets one and two, the Cougars fell in three sets in their second conference match in less than 24 hours.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Matthew Geiser led the team with a season high 15 kills.
- Trent Weber had 15 assists
- Virgilio Rodriguez started at libero and recorded nine digs.
- Illinois Tech out hit CUC .373 to .158.
- Illinois Tech out block CUC 9-1.
In set one,
Skylar Versendaal got things started with a kill. CUC was able to build up a 9-6 lead on a kill from
Nick Capers. The Cougars continued to trade points with the Scarlet Hawks, holding a 19-16 lead on another Versendaal kill. Illinois tech was able to rally though late in the set. CUC was just one point away from taking the set when Geiser picked up an ace to make it 25-24. Illinois Tech rallied though to take set one 27-25.
In set two CUC came out strong on a 5-0 run.
Brian Perez got things started with a kill. Geiser followed with two aces and a kill. IIT was able to work their way back into the set with a 5-1 run to tie the set at ten. The Scarlet Hawks continued their run to build up a multi-point lead which forced a CUC timeout. The Cougars answered with a run powered by kills by Geiser and Perez to tie the set at 22. Illinois Tech responded with a 3-1 run to close out set two 25-23.
In set three, IIT opened on a 5-2 run. They continued to add on, making their lead to as many as nine in the set to close out the three set sweep 25-17.
The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday night when they head to Lisle, Illinois to take on fifth ranked Benedictine University. Opening tip is set for 7:30pm.
