Shayni Paul will lead the CUC women's soccer team back to her alma mater, Marian University, tomorrow for a weekend conference match-up.
Last Time Out: The Cougars last took to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon against the Alverno Inferno. In a commanding 7-1 victory, six different Cougar women scored, including
Arly Escamilla and
Melissa Galarza, who scored their first career goals in maroon and gold. Freshman goalkeeper
Banesa Cavada also made her first career appearance in net for the last six minutes of the match. The win helped CUC improve to 2-1 in conference play and 2-8 overall.Â
Scouting the Sabres: Concordia-Chicago will face a Marian team who is currently 1-2 in NACC play, including a 8-0 shut out victory over Lakeland University on Wednesday. Sabre Olivia Meerdink leads her team with 16 points on the season, consisting of seven goals and two assists. So far this season, Meerdink has scored at least one point in seven of the 10 Marian matches.Â
Battle of the Felines: Marian holds the all-time series advantage at 9-3-1. However, the Cougars have taken two of the last three meetings. With the series dating back to just October 2006, CUC will look to defeat the Sabres for the fourth time in school history.
At a Glance:Â After taking on Marian University tomorrow, CUC will look ahead to another two-game week. Concordia-Chicago will take on Illinois Tech. for a midweek match-up, followed by playing host to the kick off Homecoming event on Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. against Edgewood.
