Box Score 2 April 7, 2018 - The Concordia University Chicago men's tennis team came back from an extended layoff to play their first two matches in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play today. The young Cougars learned some lessons and gained some match experiences, but it was not enough to avoid 0-9 losses to both Lakeland University and Concordia University Wisconsin.
In doubles play versus Lakeland, the Cougars' first doubles team of
Orlando Hayes andÂ
Trey Dille lost 3-8 to Jared Nummerdor and Dylan Skewis. The score was identical in second doubles where
Andrew Thompson and
Aleksandar Utvic fell to Nick Lange and Nathaniel Nanda. At third doubles,
Kenneth Catron and
Nico Powell dropped a 1-8 contest to Yuki Sakata and Eeshi Vue.Â
The closest contest in singles play came at first, where Hayes beat Lange 7-6 (7-2) in the first set, only to see Lange pull out the next two sets by scores of 6-3 and 10-6. The remaining flights saw Thompson and Utvic fall 1-6, 3-6 at second and third respectively, Dille 3-6, 2-6 at fourth, and Catron and Powell by 0-6, 1-6 scores at fifth and sixth respectively.
The Cougars were held scoreless in the CUW match, although CUC head coach
Howard Carley reported that "we saw some very good competition, and I actually think that some of our guys played better in that afternoon match. Our players are all in the same boat right now, we have work to do, but we're going to keep learning and improve our games."
Concordia-Chicago (0-4, 0-2 NACC) will be back on the home courts on Thursday, April 12 to battle Illinois Institute of Technology.Â
