Box Score 2 April 28, 2018 - A season of growing pains for the Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team came to an end today as they dropped consecutive 9-0 losses in Wisconsin to Edgewood College and Marian University.
In the morning match against Edgewood, CUC struggled to score points as the closest doubles match saw an 8-2 loss at second. In singles, only
Tyler Vincent at second,
Andrew Thompson at third and
Trey Dille at fourth managed to score points, while the other singles were swept by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
At Marian, the first doubles team of
Orlando Hayes and Vincent fared better but lost 8-3. The third doubles team of
Harrison Grimes and Alex Brice dropped an 8-2 contest.
Singles play saw more competitive play from first through fourth flights. Danny Roe topped Hayes at first, 6-4 and 6-0. Joey Dittman defeated Vincent at second, 6-2 and 6-2. Lawson MacDonald beat Thompson at third, 6-2 and 6-0, and Brandon Ruis defeated Dille at fourth, 6-0 and 6-3.
The Cougars finished 0-11, 0-8 NACC, but head coach
Howard Carley said, "I applaud the guys who stuck with it through the season and did their best to learn the game. I hope that those who are coming back next season will have a good off-season of learning and be ready to pick it up again. We have work to do, but I am still optimistic about the future."
