RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- With its first NACC tournament appearance since 2016, the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team is set to take on Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon tomorrow afternoon for the quarterfinals.
LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars were electric in their last appearance, defeating Aurora University for the first time in program history, 3-1, in a pseudo-playoff game that clinched them a NACC playoff berth. Junior
Samantha Wozniak led the charge with two goals in the match, both high shots that the Spartans' keeper was unable to handle. Senior
Cecilia Kochanek scored the game-winning goal in the 44th minute of play, off a pass from
Esmeralda Torres to the middle of the field. Aurora showed life, scoring at the 84:04 mark, but it wasn't enough to take down the Cougar surge.
DEJA VU: Tomorrow will be the second time this season that CUC and CUW are battling head-to-head. Previously, Concordia Wisconsin defeated the Cougars on Saturday, Oct. 20. The Falcons won just 1-0, after scoring in the 25th minute of play and holding CUC to just five shots.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS: CUW is 20-9 overall on the season, with a strong 8-3 conference record. Leading scorers Alexandra Tomich and Isabel Downs have 14 and 10 goals this season, respectively. The Falcons will face the Cougars after coming off a commanding 12-0 defeat over Alverno earlier this week.
ALL-TIME VS. CUW: The Cougars have beaten their rival just once in the all time series with the Falcons. Holding the advantage at 14-1-1, CUW last lost to CUC in 2016, 4-0.
BETWEEN THE POSTS: Senior goalkeeper
Madeline Kroll has been an unsung hero for the squad all season long. With 10 saves during last week alone, Kroll ranks fifth in the conference for total saves with 75 on the season. She is also sixth in the conference for goals allowed average, among goalies who have seen over 1,000 minutes of action. With a 1.73 GAA, Kroll ranks just above CUW's keeper, Olivia Kindt, who holds a 1.76 GAA.
