Cougars Fall to Lady Reds

Box Score

Sept. 24, 2017 - The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer program was coming off a stellar 4-0 victory over Lakeland University yesterday evening and looking to sweep the weekend as they took on Carthage College this afternoon. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Lady Reds dictated the pace from the opening whistle to beat Concordia-Chicago 4-1.

Early in the first half, Carthage quickly took control of the tempo with four quick shots within the first five minutes. The persistence on offense benefited the Lady Reds in the 11th minute when Maggie Washelesky put one in the back of the net to give Carthage a 1-0 lead. Carthage continued to possess the ball and take advantage of a few Cougars' miscues on defense when the Lady Reds netted their second goal in the 26th minute. CUC couldn't get anything going offensively in the first half, which led to a 2-0 deficit heading into halftime.

Like the first half, the Lady Reds scored 10 minutes into play, extending their lead to 3-0.  In the 69th minute, the Cougars got one back with freshman Esther Annoreno scoring her second goal on the year. Carthage quickly halted CUC's momentum when they capitalized on a crucial foul inside the box, which gave the Lady Reds' Darcy Stoecklin her second goal of the year and extend the Carthage lead back to three.

The Cougars (2-6-2, 1-1 NACC) return to action Wednesday, September 27, as the Cougars take on Alverno College from Concordia Stadium.  Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
