Men's Tennis Falls to 1-3 in Conference

April 15, 2017 - After a split of their first two matches in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play last weekend, the Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team looked for comparable or better results today as they traveled to Wisconsin to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wisconsin Lutheran College. However, the Cougars came up short against both opponents, falling by identical 9-0 scores.

The Cougars were at a disadvantage in both matches, with just five members of the team available, and CUC conceded points at sixth singles and third doubles going into each match. In the MSOE match, the Cougars were unable to get any serious rallies going. The most points from any of the CUC players came at third singles as Josh Krzyzanowski took two points in the first set and one in the second.

In the afternoon match versus Wisconsin Lutheran, Krzyzanowski and Ryan Popowcer engaged in a fierce battle with Jonathan Wordell and Matt Plaski. This would be the closest of any of the Cougars' doubles matches this year, but the Warriors' tandem finally prevailed by an 8-6 score.

Alex Vieaux also had an epic battle with Wordell at second singles. Wordell edged out Vieaux 7-6 in the first set, but Vieaux forced a third set with a 6-4 second. The two players went back and forth before Wordell finally emerged with the 10-8 decider.

The Cougars will travel to Aurora University on Thursday for their next conference match.
