March 25, 2017 - The Cougar men's tennis team returned to action today, welcoming sister school Concordia University Ann Arbor to town. The match was meant to be CUC's first on the outdoor courts this season, but the overnight and morning rains chased the two teams indoors to the Oak Park Tennis and Fitness Centre. Once the action started, the visiting Cardinals took care of business by defeating the Cougars.
In doubles play, the first team of
Ariel Manjarrez and
Alex Vieaux put up a tough battle against CUAA's Gustavo Lozada and Alexander Koziel, but the Cardinals' tandem eventually won by a final score of 8-3. The Cardinals were able to take a 3-0 lead in the match as they had already won the other two doubles - Mitchell Zacharias and A.J. Janssen 8-2 at second over
Allen Price and
Josh Krzyzanowski, and Jacob Baxter and Samuel Dobben 8-0 at third over
Rudy Croon and
Ryan Popowcer.
Singles play saw the Cardinals sweep through as well. Krzyzanowski fared the best among the Cougars, taking five points in a 2-6, 3-6 loss to Baxter at fourth.
"We continue to make progress," said CUC head coach
Howard Carley. "We need to be more consistent, make better decisions and learn how to make our opponents uncomfortable."
The Cougars (0-5) will return to action next Saturday at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL.
