April 23, 2016 -Â A quick turnaround for the Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team saw them back on the courts this morning after playing rival Dominican University last night. Today, the opponent was Aurora University, and it was the visiting Spartans that got the better of the Cougars by a final score of 9-0.
Ariel Manjarrez (Berwyn, IL/Morton West)Â has had the hot racket for CUC in singles play, and he put up the toughest fight again today. He battled fiercely against David Dobrose at first singles but came up on the short end of 6-4, 6-4 scores.Â
Alex Vieaux (Park Forest, IL/Illinois Lutheran) rallied in his second set against Robert Salerno but lost at second singles, 6-0 and 6-3.
Rounding out singles play, Jake Lipka defeatedÂ
Niko Vercelletto (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) at third, 6-0 and 6-0. Tom Asavarachan topped
Mark Knight (Lyons, IL/Morton West), 6-2 and, 6-1 at fourth. Patrick MacDonald beatÂ
Parker Lloyd (Sandy, UT/Hillcrest)Â at fifth, 6-1 and 6-0.
In doubles play, the first team of Manjarrez/Vieaux and the second team of Knight/Lloyd lost by identical 8-2 scores to Salerno/Lipka and Dobrose/Asavarachan respectively.
The Cougars (1-7, 1-5 NACC) will return to the home courts next Saturday, April 30 when they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wisconsin Lutheran College.
