Cougars Fall to Stars in First of Two Weekend Matches

April 22, 2016 - The Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team got an early start to the weekend this afternoon. They took on Division Street rival Dominican University at the Forest Park courts but fell to the Stars by a score of 8-1.

Junior Ariel Manjarrez (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) continued to play well in the first singles position as he earned the Cougars' lone point. Manjarrez improved to 4-3 on the season with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Quinn Porter. Manjarrez and Alex Vieaux (Park Forest, IL/Illinois Lutheran) did not fare as well at first doubles, losing to Camden Knights and John Mysz 8-1.

In the other doubles match, the second team of Mark Knight (Lyons, IL/Morton West) and Parker Lloyd (Sandy, UT/Hillcrest) lost 8-0 to Tarik Abdullah and Hector Ramirez. Singles flights,  in order from two to five, went to Mysz over Vieaux 6-1 and 6-2; Abdullah over Niko Vercelletto (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) 6-2 and 6-1, Frank Lally over Knoght 6-2 and 6-2, and Knights over Lloyd, 6-1 and 6-0.

The Cougars (1-6, 1-4 NACC) are back on their own courts on Saturday morning when they host Aurora University.
