April 16, 2016 -Â Last weekend's trip to Wisconsin netted an opening victory for the Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team and an overall good feeling for the start of the new season. Today's return to the Badger State was not in the same category as the Cougars sustained losses to Edgewood College and Marian University.
In the morning match, a more experienced Edgewood Eagles team blanked CUC by a final score of 9-0. The Cougars' first doubles team ofÂ
Ariel Manjarrez (Berwyn, IL/Morton West)Â and
Alex Vieaux (Park Forest, IL/Illinois Lutheran) lost by an 8-2 score as did the second team of Â
Mark Knight (Lyons, IL/Morton West)Â andÂ
Parker Lloyd (Sandy, UT/Hillcrest). None of the singles players garnered more than one point in their two sets.
The afternoon match was much more competitive, but CUC still fell to Marian University by a score of 6-3. Manjarrez and Vieaux accounted for all of the Cougars' points in this match, the two of them teaming up for an 8-3 win at first doubles. In singles, Manjarrez won his match at first by 6-0, 6-0 scpres. Â Vieaux had a tougher challenge, but he won at srcond by 2-6, 6-1, 10-7. The three and four singles matches were closely contested.Â
