Cougars Edged by Stars in Home Finale

April 17, 2015 – The Cougars hosted Dominican University in a NACC conference match on Friday in another edition of the Division Street Rivalry. CUC played a tough 4-5 loss.

Assistant Coach Alex Brym said, "Obviously I am disappointed with the result, but it was very close and I am proud of the team for fighting hard. We had two match points that could have gone the either way. Now we need to regroup and prepare for tomorrow."

In the doubles the number one pairing of Clinton Bienz (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) and Patrick McIntosh (Tulsa, OK/Tulsa Memorial) won 8-6. The second and third teams both fell in tough matches.

The singles matches were closely contested as Clinton Bienz won first singles 7-5, 7-5, in sixth singles Andrew Menke (Pflugerville, TX/H.S.) won 7-6, 6-2, and Ariel Manjarrez (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) won 6-3, 6-2. Of the remaining games two of them went to third sets or tie breaks and matches t urned on a single point.

It was Senior Day and McIntosh said, "Although, I didn't play freshman year because of an injury, I was able to play my last three years. It's always fun getting better at a sport. I enjoyed my time on the CUC tennis team and the friendships I have made."

Concordia returns to the court tomorrow to complete their weekend matches. They travel to Aurora to play at 10am on Saturday in their penultimate weekend of play.
