April 28, 2014 – The Cougars traveled to Wisconsin on Monday for the first round of the NACC conference tournament. They faced CUW and lost 5-0 to finish 4-6 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.
Head coach
Terry Farrell said, "The guys showed their dedication by showing for a rematch against a team that just beat us 36 hours earlier. Unfortunately, it was raining cats and dogs on the way up there and it was a portent of things to come."
The conference tournament match versus CUW started at 11 a.m. at the Paley Tennis Center in Milwaukee. The Cougars fell into an early hole by losing all three doubles matches. In singles play,
Clinton Bienz (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) lost at second to Skip Turner in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-1 and 7-6 (7-4) while
Ariel Manjarrez (Berwyn, IL/Morton West)dropped his first singles match to Russ Johnson, 6-0 and 6-1. Because of the lack of court space, the singles matches of
Alex Vieaux (Park Forest, IL/Illinois Lutheran) and
Niko Vercelletto (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) were suspended once the minimum of five wins was achieved in the best of nine series.
With no seniors on this year's roster, the Cougars will have the opportunity to return all of its players for the 2015 season.
