Men's Tennis Beats Rockford to Split First Home Matches

April 12, 2014 – The Cougars hosted two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponents on Saturday. The first match against Aurora University resulted in an 8-1 loss, but the Cougars rebounded in the afternoon as they faced Rockford University and defeated them 7-2. Concordia is now 2-2 on the season.

Head coach Terry Farrell said, "The conditions were very trying today as the morning was in the 40s and the afternoon in the 70s with 30mph gusts of wind. But both teams had to deal with it, and I'm happy that we came out on top in the afternoon. We would also like to thank all the families that came today. Their support is valuable."

In the morning match versus Aurora, the Cougars' lone victory came from Zach Eddins (Hickory, NC/St. Stephen) who battled to a 6-4 6-4 win in the number six singles spot. His persistence paid off as his match was the final one to finish by almost 45 minutes.

In the afternoon match-up, the Cougars' numbers 2-6 singles matches and 2-3 doubles matches all prevailed. The primary players that battled the increasingly gusting winds and emerged victorious were Clinton Bienz (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran), Alex Vieaux (Park Forest, IL/Illinois Lutheran), and Patrick McIntosh (Tulsa, OK/Tulsa Memorial).

Coach Farrell concluded his remarks on the day by saying, "The balance of the team from top to bottom will, hopefully, take us into the conference playoffs this year. We have talent from the one through six positions."

Concordia returns to the court for an away match Tuesday versus Dominican University at their off campus courts in Forest Park, IL. The games are scheduled at 4 p.m..
