Cougar Women Top Warriors Behind Kruk's Hat Trick

Box Score Oct. 18, 2014 – The Concordia Cougars women's soccer team romped to victory in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Saturday as they traveled to Milwaukee, WI. Their opponent on the day was Wisconsin Lutheran College, which was the scene of a number of Cougar records. The final score was 4-1 in favor of the Cougars as they challenge for a conference playoff berth.

"It has been a good run of games over the last four matches," said CUC head coach Thomas Goines. "We put together another complete game against a challenging WLC team and are looking to carry our momentum forward through the end of the season as we push for a playoff spot."

The Cougars started out the game on fire during a chilly Wisconsin day on a wet grass field. Alisha Johnson (Coal City, IL/H.S.) continued her dominance on the right side as she set the CUC single season assist record with three assists on the day. In the fifth minute, she played a ball in for Natalie Weinhold (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran St. Charles) to finish as CUC took the early lead. Just two minutes later, another Johnson cross was finished by Allison Kruk (Elgin, IL/St Edward), which was the first of three goals as Kruk completed her first career hat trick.

Wisconsin Lutheran was able to pull a goal back and make the game 2-1 in the 13th minute. However, Concordia-Chicago continued to dominate the first half with additional chances coming from Kruk and Sarah LaCost (Mount Prospect, IL/Prospect).

The second half started just as quickly for the Cougars as Nikki Anderson (Montgomery, IL/Oswego) assisted on Kruk's second goal of the game just four minutes into the half. Nine minutes later, Johnson completed her hat trick of assists by playing the ball to Kruk to complete her hat trick of goals. The 4-1 score line also gives CUC 58 goals on the season, which sets a new single season record for goals.

The Cougars have a week off to prepare before traveling to Mequon, WI on Saturday, October 25th. The game time is at 1:00 against rival Concordia-Wisconsin.
