April 13, 2013 - The Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team stands at 2-2 in Northern Athletics Conference play (3-2 overall) following today's pair of matches.
A short-handed Cougars' team (due to mandated testing) fell 8-1 to Aurora University in the morning match. The Cougars managed their lone point at first doubles where
Clinton Bienz (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) and
Tim Staffeld (Hobart, IN/H.S.) edged Brett Wilder and Anthony Emmanouil by an 8-6 score.
The Cougars had their full team back for the afternoon match at Rockford College and responded with a 7-2 victory. In doubles play, the Regents defaulted at third. Concordia then claimed a 2-1 lead after doubles play with the second team of Staffeld and
Jose Landa (Round Lake, IL/H.S.) defeating Sam Medina-Conchi and Felipe Juarez by an 8-1 score.
In singles play, the Cougars won at flights two through five with another default point at sixth. Staffeld defeated Alex Kadamian 6-0, 6-1 at second
. Chayanne Martinez (Carpentersville, IL/Dundee-Crown) prevailed 6-4, 6-3 over Medina-Conchi at third. Landa beat Juarez 6-4, 6-1 at fourth, and
Matt Gruenwald (Evansville, IN/Harrison) won at fifth, 6-2 and 6-3 over Michael Watson.
Concordia will host Dominican University on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30.
