April 24, 2012 - The Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team faces an important final two matches this Saturday when they host Aurora University and Rockford College. The Cougars, currently 3-4 in Northern Athletics Conference play, will be looking to move up a notch or two from their current sixth place standing and gain a more favorable first-round matchup when conference tournament play opens next Monday. Concordia will clinch a tournament berth with one win on Saturday.
Concordia's final tune-up for this weekend was a rough one as the Cougars lost to host Elmhurst College 9-0 in non-conference play.
Tim Staffeld (Hobart, IN/H.S.) fell to Vincent McPherson 6-2, 6-1 at second.
Alex Tarullo (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) at first and
Vince Termini (Addison, IL/Addison Trail) at third lost by 6-1, 6-0 scores to Will Jung and Luke Tanaka respectively.
Chayanne Martinez (Carpentersville, IL/Dundee-Crown) at fourth,
Adam Schoedel (St. Charles. MO/Lutheran St. Charles) at fifth, and
Ronald Roman (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) at sixth all lost by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The Cougars' doubles teams of Staffeld/Tarullo at first, Termini/Martinez at second, and Roman/
Luis Rivera (Franklin Park, IL/East Leyden) at third were all blanked 8-0.
