April 14. 2012 - The Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team took to the road today for two Northern Athletics Conference matches in Wisconsin. Both matches resulted in 9-0 scores with the Cougars defeating Lakeland College in the morning match and losing to Concordia University Wisconsin in the afternoon.
Against Lakeland, the Cougars made quick work of their opponents in the doubles matches. The first team of Alex Tarullo (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) and Thien Van (Berwyn, IL/Morton West), and the second team of Tim Staffeld (Hobart, IN/H.S.) and Vince Termini (Addison, IL/Addison Trail) won their matches by 8-2 scores. Adam Schoedel (St. Charles, MO/Lutheran St. Charles) teamed with Ronald Roman (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) at third doubles today, and they posted an 8-0 shutout victory.
The shutout theme continued in singles play as Tarullo at second, Staffeld at third and Schoedel at fifth all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores. The remaining matches saw Van win 6-3, 6-1 at first, Termini 6-4, 6-0 at fourth and Roman 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 at sixth.
The afternoon match in Mequon went the opposite way as all the singles matches were decided in two sets. The doubles matches saw the undefeated Falcons win by scores of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-1.
The Cougars (2-5, 2-3 NAC) return to Wisconsin next Saturday for matches at Edgewood College and Marian University.
