April 12, 2012 - The Concordia Cougars broke from their Northern Athletics Conference schedule for this afternoon's match at North Central College in Naperville. The Cardinals had the best of play for the entire match and blanked the Cougars by a 9-0 score.
In doubles play, the usual tandems were shuffled due to the absence of Thien Van (Berwyn, IL/Morton West). The first team of Alex Tarullo (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) and Vince Termini (Addison, IL/Addison Trail) lost 8-1 to Will Exner and Boris Kampel. Chayanne Martinez (Carpentersville, IL/Dundee-Crown) and Tim Staffeld (Hobart, IN/H.S.) lost 8-2 at second to Mason Sass and Andrew McKinley. The same 8-2 score was the result of third doubles, Rustam Saini and Eric McKee defeating Ronald Roman (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) and Luis Rivera (Franklin Park, IL/East Leyden).
In singles play, Exner beat Tarullo 6-2, 6-0 at first. McKee toppled Staffeld 6-2, 6-2 at second, and Kampel defeated Termini at third 6-1, 6-1. Martinez at fourth, Adam Schoedel (St. Charles, MO/Lutheran St. Charles) at fifth and Roman at sixth all lost their matches by 6-0, 6-1 scores.
Concordia (1-4) will return to conference play Saturday with matches at Lakeland College and Concordia University Wisconsin.
