April 29, 2011 - Concordia's men's tennis team commenced the final weekend of the regular season with a solid 9-0 win over host Aurora University.
The Cougars bolted to a quick start in doubles and did not look back. Of note, freshman Nick Buchholz (Grafton, WI/H.S.) saw his first match action of the season. He teamed with Vince Termini (Addison, IL/Addison Trail) at third doubles to defeat Zach Davis and Andy Patton 8-2.
The same 8-2 score came at second doubles where Alex Tarullo (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) and Jeff Smith (Moline, IL/home schooled) took down Clay Trautman and John Dudley. The first doubles match was a closer affair, but Thien Van (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) and Nathan Wingfield (Greendale, WI/Martin Luther) prevailed over Dan Micun and Brett Wilder by an 8-5 margin.
In singles play, Buchholz won his initial sixth singles match with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Juan Padilla. Elsewhere, Smith at first and Termini at fifth won their matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Wingfield at second and Tarullo at third won by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores, and Van topped Dudley at fourth by 6-0, 6-2 scores.
Concordia (6-5, 6-2 NAC) will play their final match before next weekend's conference tournament with a Saturday afternoon match at Rockford College.
