Men's Tennis Blanked at Elmhurst

April 14, 2011 - The Concordia-Chicago men's tennis team fell to 2-2 on the season with a 9-0 loss at the hands of non-conference opponent Elmhurst College on Thursday.

In doubles play, the closest contest of the day came at third. John Gehm (Frankenmuth, MI/H.S.) and Tim Staffeld (Hobart, IN/H.S.) battled Will Jung and Henrique Boscolo through a long match before the Bluejays tandem finally prevailed by a 9-7 score.

In singles, Jeff Smith (Moline, IL/home schooled) looked to come back in his first singles match against Alex Harbert after he lost the first set 6-0. Smith fared better in the second set but still came up short by a 6-3 score. Alex Tarullo (Berwyn, IL/Morton West) lost at third, 6-2, 6-2 to Justin Guenther. None of the other Cougar singles players scored more than one point in a set against their opponents.

Concordia returns to Northern Athletics Conference play on Saturday where they are 2-1 on the year. The Cougars will host Lakeland College at 10 a.m. and Concordia University Wisconsin at 2 p.m.
