Oct. 1, 2011 - A four-goal, one-assist performance by forward Alyssa Soulis (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake North) sparked the Concordia women's soccer team to a 6-1 win over Lakeland College this afternoon in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Soulis became the first Cougar player to score four goals in a game since Sept. 18, 2007 when Kari Zielke accomplished the feat against Alverno College. The four goals put Soulis at seven for the season and 13 for her career, tying her for sixth on Concordia's all-time scoring list.
The sophomore's big day started early as she struck just 2:23 into the match. Soulis later set up Anne Rockert's (Kankakee, IL/Herscher) goal, her third of the year and second in the last two games.
Soulis struck again in the 21st minute as the Cougars continued to fire away at the Muskies' goal. But Lakeland pulled one goal back just 61 seconds before halftime to make it a 3-1 game at ther break. Concordia owned a huge advantage in shots for the half at 14-2.
Lakeland picked up the attack in the second half with 13 shots to Concordia's 14, but it was Concordia that did all the scoring. Soulis found the net in the 60th and 82nd minutes. In between, Haley Graner (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha West) notched her second goal of the season, an unassisted tally in the 77th minute.
Freshman Callie Hasselbring (Houston, TX/Cypress Ridge) made eight saves in recording her fifth victory of the season. On the other side, the Cougars kept up the pressure on Katelyn Streeter, forcing her to make 10 saves.
Concordia (5-4-0, 2-4-0 NAC) will play at Dominican University on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00.
