Soccer Battle of Concordias Goes to Ann Arbor
The first of two weekend matches in Michigan did not fare well for the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team. The Cougars fell behind host Concordia Ann Arbor early, and the Cardinals blew the game wide open in the second half to win by a final score of 10-0.
Ann Arbor's Monica Palushaj got free behind the Cougar defense and scored just 1:40 into the match to put the home team up quickly. Palushaj struck again in the 17th minute, and the Cardinals added goals in the 22nd and 43rd minutes to take a four-goal lead at the half.
The deficit grew in the second half as Ann Arbor scored in the 56th and 66th minutes to make it a 6-0 game. The hosts added four more goals in the final 20 minutes, taking advantage of a fatigued Cougar squad that had no players available off the bench for today's game.
Sophomore keeper Kayla Henckel (West Bend, WI/Living Word Lutheran) faced 31 shots in goal. The Cougars mustered five shots for the game, four by Lindsay Dyal (Eagle River, AK/Chugiak) and one by Lyndsay Cochran (Manchester, ME/Maranacook Community).
The Cougars (0-2) will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they take on Rochester College of Michigan at CUAA's Rummel Field.
