Sept. 1, 2010 - The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team faced a difficult challenge in today's season opener. Lake Forest College was tabbed as the second-place pick for the Midwest Conference in a preseason poll, and the host Foresters earned their accolades with a 7-0 win over the Cougars.
Lake Forest scored six of their seven goals in the first half, beginning with Bianca Greene's goal just 55 seconds after kickoff. Lisa Sorensen added tallies in the sixth and 14th minutes, and the Foresters doubled their lead with strikes in the 28th, 34th and 40th minutes. The Foresters outshot the Cougars 13-0 in the first 45 minutes, forcing Cougar goalkeeper Kayla Henckel (West Bend, WI/Living Word Lutheran) into making six saves.
The Cougars switched formations in the second half and limited the hosts to one goal and eight shots. Both of Concordia's scoring chances came in this half on shots by Lindsay Dyal (Eagle River, AK/Chugiak) and Maggie Kucek (Oak Forest, IL/H.S.), but Lake Forest's keeper Angie Chronis steered both aside to protect the clean sheet.
Concordia will travel to its sister school in Ann Arbor this weekend to take on the Cardinals on Friday afternoon and Rochester College on Saturday.
