Oct. 25, 2010 - The Concordia women's soccer team traveled to Milwaukee today to make up an earlier postponement against Alverno College. The Cougar women had a good rhythm and pace to their attack, but they were unable to stop the Inferno's pair of forward Kelsey Kochanowski and midfielder Nava Moniriarani. The two accounted for five goals and eight assists in Alverno's 8-2 victory.
Both teams came out attacking at the start with Concordia's Angela Powers (Palos Heights, IL/Shepard) and Lindsay Dyal (Eagle River, AL/Chugiak) getting opportunities at the Alverno goal. However, it was Moniriarani who broke the ice in the 18th minute with her shot past Cougar keeper Sarah Ann Evers (Napoleon, OH/H.S.). The midfielder then set up Kochanowski for a pair of goals within 81 seconds to stake Alverno to a 3-0 lead. The Inferno carried the momentum through the end of the half, firing 13 shots to the Cougars' eight.
The Cougars came out determined to come back on the hosts, and Alyssa Soulis (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake North) put Concordia on the board with her sixth goal over the last week. The goal was assisted by Lyndsay Cochran (Manchester, ME/Maranacook Community) and came just 3:50 into the half.
An Alverno goal in the 56th minute restored the lead to three, but Cochran netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 67th minute to pull Concordia to within two goals again. However, the comeback would end there, as Kochanowski and Kelly Rooney scored in the 75th and 77th minutes to blow the game wide open. Two more tallies in the final 10 minutes accounted for the final margin of victory for Alverno.
Alverno outshot Concordia for the contest by a 27-15 count. Evers played 56 minutes in goal for the Cougars, making four saves. Lyndsay Garlich (Beecher, IL/H.S.) played the final 34 minutes in goal and made one save.
The Cougar women will play their final game of the 2010 season on Wednesday afternoon at Aurora University.
