Oct. 23, 2010 - A three-goal second half by host Maranatha Baptist Bible College snapped a tie at halftime, and the Crusaders defeated the Concordia Cougars 4-1 this afternoon in Northern Athletics Conference women's soccer action.
The Cougars, coming off a 4-1 win over Rockford College four days ago, struck quickly in the match. Kristi Rodriguez (West Chicago, IL/St. Charles East) delivered a nice cross-field pass to Alyssa Soulis (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake North) who took one touch and shot inside the far post. For Soulis, it was her fifth straight goal after accounting for all of the tallies in Tuesday's win.
The lead lasted only four minutes as Maranatha's Karis Rogers tallied in the 8th minute. The 1-1 tie held up for the remainder of the half despite the fact that Maranatha outshot Concordia 14-2.
Two goals in a five-minute span of the second half swung control of the match to the Crusaders. Elise Jones netted an unassisted tally in the 56th minute, and Rogers added her second goal shortly after to make it a 3-1 game. Lisa Collogan scored with less than 10 minutes remaining to provide the final margin of victory for Maranatha.
The hosts fired 30 shots at the Cougars' net for the game with Concordia keeper Sarah Ann Evers (Napoleon, OH/H.S.) making 10 saves. Korinne Israel made three saves in the Crusaders' goal.
Concordia will travel to Milwaukee on Monday for their rematch against Alverno College. The two teams played last month until the match was stopped by lightning. This match will be replayed in its entirety.
