Melissa Balkema (Saint John, IN) of the softball team is honored for March 20-26.
Balkema batted .429 from the leadoff position and scored eight runs in the Cougars’ 4-0 week. Her biggest hit came in the ninth inning of game one at North Park University on March 24, a three-run homer that lifted the Cougars to a 7-5 victory. Balkema has an active hitting streak of nine games, and she leads the everyday players with a .444 batting average.
???????Balkema, the daughter of Rob and Patty Balkema, is a 2015 graduate of Hanover Central High School in Cedar Lake, IN. She is a sophomore special education major.
