Doug Matthews (Crest Hill, IL) of the baseball team is honored for the week of April 27-May 3.

Matthews hit .588 (10-17) during the CUC baseball team’s 5-0 week. The third baseman scored five runs and drove in nine. Matthews went 4-4 in game one of the Benedictine doubleheader on May 2, a game in which he drove in a run in each of his four at-bats. He also played a role in the Cougars’ wild five-run ninth in game two that day when he was hit by a 2-2 pitch that forced in the tying run and ultimately led to a 7-6 victory.

Matthews, the son of John and Jackie Matthews, is a 2013 graduate of Lockport Township High School in Lockport, IL. He is a sophomore emergency medical services major.
