Alex Schmidt (Frankenmuth, MI) of the women’s cross-country team is honored for the week of Sept. 3-9.
Schmidt received her second consecutive Athlete of the Week honor with a record-breaking performance at the Aurora Spartan Classic Sept. 7. Schmidt ran a 23:39 in the women’s 6K race, smashing her previous record by 25 seconds. Her performance, good for ninth place overall among 143 runners and her second straight top-ten finish, helped the Concordia women’s team to sixth place out of 13 teams.
Schmidt, the daughter of Tyson and Sharon Schmidt, is a 2009 graduate of Frankenmuth High School in Frankenmuth, Mich. She carries a double major in Lutheran secondary education/physical education and exercise science.
