Alex Schmidt (Frankenmuth, MI) of the women’s cross-country team is honored for the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2.
            
Schmidt ran a career-best 4K time of 15:05.1 in the Elmhurst Earlybird Invitational Aug. 31. She finished sixth in a class of 166 runners, making a strong finishing push over the final 400 meters. Her effort led the Cougars to an overall ninth place finish.

Schmidt, the daughter of Tyson and Sharon Schmidt, is a 2009 graduate of Frankenmuth High School in Frankenmuth, Mich. She carries a double major in Lutheran secondary education/physical education and exercise science.
