Apelar joined the CUC men's volleyball staff as a graduate assistant in the fall of 2018.
He comes to Concordia-Chicago after earning a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines in 2016, and will pursue a master’s in Exercise Science/Strength and Conditioning while at CUC.
Apelar moved to the Philippines for a volleyball scholarship and to play for Ateneo de Manila's men's volleyball team after a short stint at Long Beach City College in California. After picking up on the different style of play in the Philippines, as opposed to the US, he also played for Ateneo's beach team and competed in the javelin and decathlon for the track and field squad.
With a passion for both beach and indoor volleyball, Apelar competed in an indoor semi-pro league and a commercial beach league upon graduation.
