COUNTRYSIDE, ILL. -- On a rainy day in the Chicagoland area, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars hosted the Edgewood University Eagles to an indoor match, where tough matches and new pairings ultimately saw the Cougars shutout, falling 7-0.
DOUBLES
- In a new arrangement of doubles, two duos took the court together for the first time this season in Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) and Brianna Bentz (Whitehall, Mich.) at no. 1 and Amirah Shakir (Dekalb, Ill.) and Hannah Upole (Hinkley, Ohio) at no. 3.Â
- Shakir and Upole battled through their match, picking up two points, but falling 6-2.Â
- The consistent duo of Sarah Gustafson (Merril, Wis.) and Abigail Krueger (Brookfield, Ill.) managed to pick up one point, but fell 6-1.
- Engelman and Bentz battled for their first appearance on court together this season, but ultimately fell 6-0.
SINGLES
- Engelman took the court at no. 1 singles where she put up a fight in the first set, trading points before ultimately falling 6-3. She held onto the momentum that she built int he first set, but was unable to convert and fell 6-1.Â
- The closest singles match of the day would come at the no. 3 spot where Bentz would fall in set one 6-1, but battle to a 6-4 loss in the second set, keeping the pressure on the Eagles.
- Every Cougar would put up points in their matches with Shakir falling 6-0 and 6-1, Krueger falling 6-1 in both sets, Upole falling 6-2 in both sets, and Gustafson falling 6-1 and 6-3.Â

The Cougars initially had a non-conference matchup scheduled for tomorrow, September 20th, but due to anticipated weather the match has been postponed.
